2018 Campo Melograno Riserva
$44.95 x 6
The Story
The volcanic soils, the sunlight and a continental climate characterized by very cold winters and scorching hot summers, punctuate the rhythms of the special Vulture region. A unique terroir in the Mediterranean sphere gives birth to unique wines, with strong mineral character and spicy touches.
Winemaking
Manual harvest takes place in the first week of November, followed by berry selection on the sorting table. The grapes are destemmed and cooled in stainless steel vats at 10°C for 24h in order to fix and enhance the aromatic structure. Maceration on the skins lasts about 15 days, with repeated pump overs. Once the spontaneous malolactic fermentation is completed, the wine gets transferred to French oak barrels where it ages for 24 months and then an additional 12 months in bottle.
Tasting Notes
Intense garnet color. Large arrays of flavours on the nose, blackberry jam and maraschino cherries notes lead to dried flowers, dark spices and Mediterranean herbs. The attack is warm, enveloping, showing a robust yet refined tannin structure in the mouth. A long finish develops with coffee and bitter roots nuances.
