2018 Pinot Nero
$36.95 x 6
Decanter: BRONZE
The Story
The estates history dates back to 1648 when the Roman Empire awarded 600 hectares to the Locatelli family. Nearly 400 years later and Marta Locatelli has taken the reigns, continuing the tradition of sustainable farming, including 75 hectares of grape vines including some of the rarest varieties in Italy.
Dedicate to Grandmother Albertina - the elegance and determination that has been instilled in the Locatelli family are found in this Pinot Nero which is grown on the most historic parcels at Angoris.
Winemaking
These 2 hectares of Pinot Nero were planted in 1997 on a stoney red clay rich in aluminium and iron oxides.
The grapes undergo a pre-fermentative cold maceration for 3 days. After fermentation is complete, 70% of the wine remains in stainless steel tanks while 30% is transferred to 500 litre tonneaux for ageing. After bottling, the wine must rest for 10 months before being released to the public.
Tasting Notes
The wine is elegant and harmonious in the glass. The ruby red wine portrays delicate floral aromas and ripe red fruit characteristics that mirror on nose and palate while the structure is inviting and long. Expect firm tannins and lively freshness.
