2020 Leggero Appassimento
Luca Maroni: 98
Passion, tradition and know-how are the key ingredients, which Piccini combine to reach the artful quality of all their wines.
Produced almost exclusively in the southern region of Puglia, Italy, Appassimento is a the process of drying out the grapes while still on the vine. This tradition was historically used in the Veneto region in the production of Amarone, and goes back many centuries With this, lovely Primitivo and Negroamaro fruit, are naturally dried on the vine for 25 days, allowing a higher concentration of sugar and lets the water out, combined with a long period of cement age to create a supple wine full of ripe black fruits with complex hints of spice, vanilla, and raisins.
The 2020 Bastioni della Rocca Puglia Appassimento is powerful and dark. Aromas of sweet cherries and red plums are woven together with earth, tobacco, grilled herbs and hints of leather. Full-bodied and smooth with soft tannins a lingering depth of flavour on the finish.
