2021 Refosco

The Story

The estates history dates back to 1648 when the Roman Empire awarded 600 hectares to the Locatelli family. Nearly 400 years later and Marta Locatelli has taken the reigns, continuing the tradition of sustainable farming, including 75 hectares of grape vines including some of the rarest varieties in Italy.

The Villa Locatelli line is dynamic, suitable for every occasion, expressing the freshness and liveliness of the Friuli Isonzo DOC area.

Winemaking

This rare grape variety is grown on a rocky 3 hectare parcel covered in small pebbles and red clay soils rich in aluminum and iron oxides.

Maceration and fermentation occur in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks before racking to a second tank for a further six month elevage.

Tasting Notes

The result is a deeply coloured purple garnet wine with a broad spectrum of flavours including blackberry, cherry, forest floor, white pepper and subtle herbaceous notes. It’s a sturdy wine with firm tannins and prominent acidity.
