The Story
Santa Lucia has been producing high quality wines for many generations. As a family-owned property, the focus is on hand crafting wines from the 40Ha property located in Maremma Toscana. The history of winemaking in the family dates back to 1898, when the great Giuseppe Scotto began working in the vineyards of Monte Argentario, a small Italian village on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Winemaking
The vineyards are located 300 meters above sea level near Magliano in Toscana a few kilometers from the reserve “Park of Maremma”. The grapes are hand-picked and transported to the winery for a soft pressing that allows for the extraction of the mature part of the fruit and the clearest liquid. The juice undergoes a brief 12 hour maceration before fermenting at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine remains in tank for 5 months and undergoes occasional batonnage to enhance the complexity and texture of the wine.
Tasting Notes
The wine is stray yellow with golden shades. The wine is rich and full-bodied showing flavours of confit lemon, poached pear and nutty almond characteristics. Great length and energy.
