The Story
Santa Lucia has been producing high quality wines for many generations. As a family-owned property, the focus is on hand crafting wines from the 40Ha property located in Maremma Toscana. The history of winemaking in the family dates back to 1898, when the great Giuseppe Scotto began working in the vineyards of Monte Argentario, a small Italian village on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Winemaking
The vineyards are near Magliano in Toscana a few kilometers from the reserve “Park of Maremma”. The grapes are hand-harvested in September and brought to the winery for fermentation in stainless steel tanks followed by a 20 day maceration. During this time the cap and juice are mixed twice a day to ensure maximum extraction. The finished wine remains in tank for an additional two months to retain all the beautiful fruit characteristics.
Tasting Notes
The extraction leads to a brilliant ruby colour in the glass and the bouquet is a complex medley of red fruits. The vibrant fruitiness of the nose is matched on the palate and a beautiful acid backbone balances the firm tannic structure.
