The Story
Santa Lucia has been producing high quality wines for many generations. As a family-owned property, the focus is on hand crafting wines from the 40Ha property located in Maremma Toscana. The history of winemaking in the family dates back to 1898, when the great Giuseppe Scotto began working in the vineyards of Monte Argentario, a small Italian village on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Winemaking
The vineyards are near Magliano in Toscana a few kilometers from the reserve “Park of Maremma”. The wine is made of 100% Vermentino which was hand-harvested in the first week of September, before achieving full maturity of the grapes. The selected grapes undergo a soft pressing which allows the extraction of the mature juice of the fruit. The juice clarifies in stainless steel tanks, where it goes through a 30 day cold fermentation in order to preserve the aromas. The wine remains for 4-6 months in the tanks, and are subjected to periodic batonage to improve the complexity and texture of the wine.
Tasting Notes
Packed with complex flavours of ripe fruit, minerals, and hints of pineapple. Moderate acid, great structure, and balance. Long finish.
