2019 Contessa di Radda DOCG-Magnum
$59.95 x 6
The Story
The prestigious "Contessa di Radda" line is the pride of Geografico, boasting an ancient and glorious tradition. Its name celebrates the illustrious Willa of Tuscany and the millenary history of the Chianti Classico hills. In 978, Willa founded Badia Fiorentina, the oldest Benedictine monastery in Florence, and to express her generosity, she gave lands in the Chianti area, including Radda, to the monastery.
Winemaking
The high-altitude vineyards are harvested in late September under the supervision of the Geografico winemaking team. Sangiovese (95%) and Merlot (5%) are vinified separately with approximately 14 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in cement tanks. Barrel ageing takes place over the next 12 months to produce a structured elegant wine.
Tasting Notes
A fresh medium body Chianti Classico with velvety texture and a long finish. Floral aromas with fresh dark cherries and lightly toasted herbs on the nose are matched by similar characteristics on the palate.
